See the article in Scientific american about g protein. This is what gives you a fight or flight response, or glucagon to increase blood sugar. The article explains it. Go through the paper models until you understand the three parts: reception, transduction and response. Reception is the binding of the complementary ligand. Transduction is a protein conformation change which is transferred to the g-protein inside the cell and it gets activated and causes an action which results in a molecule entering the nucleus to start the transcription of a gene (gene regulation). Tyrosine kinase is another model you must go through. I would use some of the extra time to review cell cycle, gene regulation, and cell to cell cycling for a test next week.
