Finish notes on the chapter about CELLULAR RESPIRATION. Prepare for a quiz thursday and another on friday. Prepare for lab on day we get back from vacation. We will measure anaerobic repiration by yeast or aerobic respiration of small insects.
Know what goes in and out of each of the 4 steps, Glycolysis, intermediate step, krebs(citric acid cycle), ETC. Know how many carbons, names of chemicals at the beginning and end of each part (not each step),Know where they occur in or out of mitochondrion, know they rely on enzymes and are regulated by allosteric enzymes. The goal is to produce ATP for cellular activities.
Know which occur with or without oxygen.
Know the different types of anaerobic respiration and which organisms make which product. alcoholic (ethanol/methanol), acetic acid(vinegar), lactic acid.
Look at the animations that describe how chemiosmosis or the buildup of a proton gradient make ATP. Know how the proton gradient is made by electrons from hydrogen carriers NADH and FADH are used to coax protons across the membrane into the intermembrane space. Know this is what drives the ATP production by ATP synthase.
Heterotrophs are animals, fungi, some bacteria and some protists. Know that plants and algae and autotrophs can make their own food but also do cellular respiration. Stay tuned to blog for vacation homework.
