Prepare for notes on c 18 by Wednesday.
This chapter looks hard, but you can figure it out.
Know:
- the functions of the three parts of the operon ( operator, promotor, and the several genes of the operon).
- repressible operons
- inducible operons
- The role of repressor genes in operons.
- the term differential gene expression and how a cell matures or differentiates (specializes into special cell types).
- differentiation of cells and organization is controlled by cytoplasmic determinants and cell to cell signals by induction. Pattern formation sets up a body plan, head , tail, segments etc...
- the impact of DNA methylation(reduces transcription) and histone acetylation (increases transcription) on gene expression.
- the role of oncogenes, proto-oncogenes, and tumor suppressor genes in cancer.
19 and 20 will be finished before vacation so plan wisely. The lab is this week on Wed or Thursday for both groups to to a new shipment of bacteria and plasmids. Have your objective, research, hypothesis done before lab. There will be another test before vacation.
Remember a notebook check will be coming up soon and covering every chapter gives you a 100 test grade!
