In class work Wednesday
We will be doing an enzyme lab that is on lab bench main.
Prepare for it by answering the following questions:
1. What is an enzyme?
2. What is the substrate the catalase breaks down?
4. What are the products?
Which one is measured?
What 3-5 variables affect the rate of the reaction using an enzyme?
What is denaturing?
What can denature an enzyme?
How does the rate of a reaction change over time? Why?
Do the toothpickase lab we started in class. There are boxes of toothpicks in the back in a drawer labeled arts and crafts. Each table can do the exercise (6 groups). put about 50 toothpicks on a table and have someone volunteer to close their eyes and break them in half. (no peeking). Have someone calling out the number broken (do not count any toothpicks that are being rebroken!). Have someone else be the timer for 10 second sample size until all have ben broken.Have another group member record the total broken every 10 seconds til there are no more to break. Graph the results! Is it a straight line or is it a curved line?
