Chapter 19 viruses
Parasitic
Have no cytoplasm or organelles
Not considered alive just molecules that can hijack cell of host to reproduce.
Protien capsid and DNA or RNA
RNA types are retroviruses
Uniques shapes
know lytic and lysogenic cycles(for temperate phages)
know papovavirus, rhinovirus, influenza H5N1 virus, HIV virus
H=attachment
N=neuramidase to release viruses from infected cells
Reproductive adaptations of RNA virus esp HIV
How vaccines work
Prions mad cow disease

Test next week on replication, protein synthesis, gene regulation viruses and biotechnology.
Must go through lab bench main to learn about the transformation experiment. It takes about an hour to go through it, and it must be learned not just viewed.
You should be able to predict what will happen to bacteria in each petri dish depending on whether there is a plamid or ampicilin present.
