Wednesday work
In class make sure to distribute data to all students.
Write up your lab in groups of three. DEZI and Louis will be taking their final, so there should be 6 groups of three leftover.
Research three methods of connecting water quality based on finding macroinvertebrates that are indicators of good water quality, or those that are indicators of poor water quality. Find real life studies and how they treated the data. Put examples and excerpts of these studies in your presentation. Research how long the life cycles are of various macro invertebrates.
Hypothesis: If.... cause , then... measurable effect.
Observations: compare the conditions of the water at Chocolog stream vs Blackstone river.
The caddisflies we found were not common netspinner caddisflies, but a form of caddisfly that requires better water quality and would come in at a BIV of 2, like the saddlecase caddisfly. It is the Northern great case maker caddisfly.
Using the aAve BIV method, these will help tho skew the data towards a 2 because there were so many.
Make a data table like the one I handed out.
Make a pie graph of %EPT vs. % Chironimids and tubifex worms, by the way the three aquatic worms were actually midge larvae of chironomids. summary statement.
Form a three paragraph conclusion:
1st develop topic macroinvertebrates as indicators of water quality.
2nd three most striking pieces of evidence (mostly summary data and not just three organisms that were found).
3rd What is the water quality?
