week two assignment.... http://bioweb.wku.edu/courses/biol115/wyatt/biochem/carbos.htm http://bioweb.wku.edu/courses/biol115/wyatt/biochem/carbos_2a.htm http://bioweb.wku.edu/courses/biol115/wyatt/biochem/Lipid/lipid1.htm http://bioweb.wku.edu/courses/biol115/wyatt/biochem/Lipid/Lipid_2.asp .... Polymers and monomers Check out these web sites and your text book for a lesson on carbohydrates and lipids. You don’t have to be able to draw each chemical structure, but you need to be able to recognize them. Make flash cards for the following carbohydrates (the bolded terms) we will constantly refer to throughout the course: Structure/function/which organism: on one side put the name of the chemical and on the other side place the structure (the chemical formula or what it is composed of), function and which organism might have them.) example: sucrose a disaccharide made of fructose and glucose used as a transport sugar in plants...... Glucose; fructose; ribose; maltose; sucrose; lactose; glycerol; glycogen; starch; cellulose... Do the same for the molecules that are or are associated with lipids. Glycerol; saturated fatty acid; unsaturated fatty acid; monoglyceride; diglyceride; triglyceride; phospholipid; cholesterol; testosterone; estradiol... Memorize them! There will be a quiz posted by the end of the week and you will have to email the answers to me.
